A couple of children peek in wonder and imagine what it must have been like for Laura Ingalls Wilder in her Little House on the Prairie (published 1935).
Recently a Prairie Days Celebration was held on the Little House on the Prairie Historical site where a visitor can see her School, the original post office, and look out onto the Indian Camp along Onion Creek. You can see the wide expanse of prairie that was home to her, and relive the tales of the Ingalls family so long ago. This is located 13 miles southwest of Independence, Missouri off Highway 75.
Eight "Little House" books were published between 1932 and 1943 told of America during the late 19th century, and the travels of the Ingalls family. Several others posthumously that were incomplete manuscripts. There was a television series (which digressed from the books in many ways).
These wonderful stories, and Newberry Award Winning Children's classics continue to offer the "dream of living like that."
