The Gorge in Autumn
Today the Gorge (Arizona Strip) between Mesquite and St George, UT on I-15 was particularly vibrant. The sky was a brilliant turquoise punched by puffy clouds left from the passing storms of the night. The recently washed mountains glowed with the desert sand, adobe and browns. All the desert plants, rinsed by recent rains, glowed their dark end-of-summer green, and the words of William Least Heat Moon described the mood of the desert today. "To say nothing is out here is incorrect; to say the desert is stingy with everything except space and light, stone and earth is closer to the truth."
